  175. to "ace" the 13wpm general class code test. I'm using
  176. SuperMorse and listening to code on my radio. I remember
  177. hearing about a book or two that describes how to copy
  178. behind and gives other hints and tips on copying code.

  206. reach the frequency, it must be that the computer automatically disables

  275. Uh, folks, Fred Lloyd posted a note here about the date of birth error a few
  276. weeks after the spring CD came out. A new program for that disc was immediately
  277. posted to an FTP site that fixed the problem. The new (fall) disc does not
  278. have this problem.

  343. Didn't H-D change ownership around this time?  I seem to remeber Hogs were'nt
  344. a good buy in the 70's and early 80's but after Americans bought it back from
  345. the Japanese parent company, quality shot thru the roof.

  347. Maybe Ramsey should sell now, and buy back in about ten years.

  349. I believe kits should be engineered better than assembled gear, since there
  350. are more variables and less quality control with kit assembling as opposed
  351. to factory assembling and testing.

  353. Many people buy kits because they can't afford assembled.  If they can't afford
  354. assembled, how can they afford the test gear to get a poorly designed kit to
  355. work?

  377. Don't worry about the loss in the coils; it'll be small relative to the
  378. loss from operating less than a quarter-wavelength above ground.  I'd
  379. adjust the antenna length and coils for about a quarter of the way from the
  380. bottom end of the 160-m band, put the coils about in the middle of each leg
  381. of the dipole, and use a tuner to cover the whole band (which is, in fact,
  382. what I plan to do when I get around to it :-)  ).  Because you're working
  383. at relatively low frequencies, I suspect you'll have to live with the large
  384. inductances.  You might reduce the size of the coils a bit by winding them
  385. around a ferrite core _of the proper material_.  Make sure it's a suitable
  386. material for 160 meters.
